Federal health insurance mainly for people age 65 and older. Some younger people may qualify because of a disability, End-Stage Renal Disease or ALS.
Age, citizenship or residency and other conditions are part of the rules. Turning 65 does not mean everyone is enrolled automatically.
FEDERAL + STATE PROGRAM
Medicaid
Public health coverage for people who meet income criteria and other conditions. In Florida, the rules depend on the eligibility group.
Low income alone does not guarantee approval. Age, household circumstances, disability, residency and other requirements may be considered.

Your map to Medicare.
Start with Parts A and B. Then understand how your coverage options fit together.
A · Hospital
Helps cover inpatient stays and certain skilled nursing facility, hospice and home health care, subject to program rules.
B · Medical care
Helps cover doctor visits, outpatient care, medical equipment and many preventive services.
D · Prescription drugs
Prescription drug coverage through private Medicare-approved plans. Drug lists and costs vary.
Original Medicare
Includes A + B. You may add a Part D plan and, subject to the rules, Medigap to help with certain costs. You can use providers who accept Medicare across the United States.
Medicare Advantage · Part C
A Medicare-approved private alternative combining A + B and usually D. Check networks, referrals, approvals and costs. Medigap does not supplement Medicare Advantage.
DCF lists criteria for groups such as children, pregnant women, parents or caregivers, older adults and people with disabilities. Each situation needs its own review.

Clear answers to common questions.
Are Medicare and Medicaid the same thing?+
No. Medicare is a federal program mainly related to age and certain conditions. Medicaid considers financial criteria and other requirements for each group in the state.
Not necessarily. Deductibles, copayments and other expenses may apply; you generally keep paying the Part B premium. Check total costs and any assistance you qualify for.
It depends on your situation and the coverage you already have. Use Medicare.gov's official enrollment timing guide to check when to enroll and avoid gaps or possible penalties.
